Women Teaching Women has been fortunate to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful people around the world. Here are some of their stories:
Monique from Ravenswood, WV
I lost my job as an assembly line worker when the factory closed, I realized that I did not have the skills to apply for the few jobs that were available in town. I had no idea how I was going to take care of my family. As a single mother of three, I was desperate, The only thing that I really knew how to do was to cut and style hair. Then someone from WTW stopped by my house and suggested I use my talent at doing hair to start a business. WTW helped me to write a business plan and taught me the skills I needed to run a business. They were understanding and very compassionate. They didn't merely give me money; they gave me something far more important. They gave me a chance to be financially independent. WTW assisted me in getting a loan, helped me to market my business, and gave me the skills I needed to get back on my feet. I now have a thriving business as a visiting stylist in senior centers and long term care facilities all around the county. My kids are doing well in school and we are very happy thanks to the help that WTW gave us.

Before WTW came to our village I spent all my days and nights beading shoes to be sold at a stall in the marketplace. The man who owned the stall paid me very little money and he frequently refused to pay me. I barely had enough money for food and went hungry most of the time. WTW taught me the skills I needed to start my own stall. In the WTW business school I learned how to manage my money and how to keep good records. They taught me how to make a sturdy shoe that wouldn't fall apart. I have enough money now to feed my family and am saving money. Starting my own business has changed my life. Thank you WTW!
Ruti from Zanzibar
I was born, grew up and now live with my children in a small village called Jambiani... on the same small farm that my mother grew up on. The farm produces barely enough food for my family. We are lucky to have a few chickens to supplement the vegetables with eggs. Before WTW came my children often cried at night because they were hungry. When WTW started business classes in the village they helped me to see how I could use the chickens to start a small business. They helped me write a business plan and get a loan to buy some more chickens. Now I sell my eggs to the tourist hotels on the island. The graduation ceremony that WTW held on the last day of classes was the proudest day of my life and I have the certificate I earned hanging in my bungalow.
